STSA History Saginaw Soccer Begins here in 1972: - Soccer becomes a new sport in the Can-Amera Games
- Parents form what will become the Saginaw Township Soccer Association
- League was comprised of 80 players
- Soccer games played at school facilities and playgrounds
- 1988: STSA develops plan to build soccer complex with fundraising scheduled over three-year period.
- 1989: Saginaw Township Board of Trustees pledges $100,000 over four years and use of 35 acres on McCarty Road.
- Campaign begins: “Say Yes to Soccer and Take the Challengeâ€.
- 1992: STSA raises $1.3 million to build 15 fields and concession stand
- 500 girls and boys register to play
- All community benefactors who took challenge are “permanently†recognized at soccer complex
- Soccer Complex 15th Anniversary in 2007
- Supports nearly 2,000 regional youth for soccer play, clinics and camps.
- Attracts parent/grandparent visitor count greater than 5,000 per week during league play.
- Home to TOP Soccer for mentally and physically challenged youth.
- Used for multiple recreational purposes: walkers/runners, bicyclists, dog trainers, model plane enthusiasts, etc.
- Ranked high in importance for quality of life issues by citizens in Saginaw Township Parks & Recreation Survey
